Many years ago, we were gifted a bottle of beer that had been brewed using yeast extracted by microbiologists in the USA from Egyptian Middle Kingdom Bread circa 2010-1998 B.C.E.

The current Ancient Egyptian exhibition at the Qld Museum reminded us we still had this bottle, so resisting the urge to drink it, we sent it to Bluestone Yeast in Victoria to see if they could revive the yeast. Their awesome team managed to reawaken the gods yet again & they built us up enough yeast to brew a commercial batch of beer.

The beer in this bottle is a rebrew of the beer we made for the Egyptian Mummies exhibition at the Qld Museum back in 2018, but this time using authentic yeast from the period. We are extremely excited to share with you the results.

Our pomegranate beer “Sekhmet’s Rage” brewed using ingredients true to the period, was inspired by the Ancient Egyptian goddess Sekhmet who was a little bloodthirsty, or so the myth goes. She once came to Earth to slaughter most of mankind and drink their blood. The remaining few people stained the Nile red with pomegranates and beer, which the goddess swiftly drank until she passed out, slept for three days and woke feeling rather sorry for herself, saving mankind from annihilation.

All natural ingredients: Water, Barley, Wheat, Pomegranate, Hibiscus & Egyptian Yeast.
